DP Racing was set up by Dave Park, he was a long time cycle fan and he had won a few 25 mile speed medals. In December 1981 he found himself snowbound at a Dutch airport. To pass the time he bought every cycling magazine he could find.
One of the Magazines was Fiet-Cross, a Dutch BMX magazine. After he had turned a few pages he was instantly hooked.
When he finally returned to the UK he did some research into the BMX scene. He was puzzled by the fact that no UK manufacturer was producing a quality, chromoly, TIG welded framesets like the Japanese and the Americans.
He never did discover the answer, instead he decided to go ahead and produce them him self.
For six months he worked alone. Late into the night he would be hunched over his drawing board working out the frame geometry options. When he wasn’t drawing he was experimenting with different methods of TIG welding. The seams didn’t just need to be strong. The welds had to be as neatly stippled as the symmetrical icing on a birthday cake.
When he had developed his first working prototype, he called it Firebird. He took it to ABMX. The frame and forks were just bare chrome, no decals. He managed to fool them all as they thought it was American or Japanese made. When he revealed its roots they were stunned. Everyone thought it was first class.
DP used a computer controlled laser to cut and shape the tubing which only took two and a half seconds. They needed to be fast, as fast as they made them DP's growing army of fan's snaped them up!

DP Racing was truly born and the framesets sold like hotcakes. The frame and forks retailed at £64.95. For this you got the 100% 4130 chro-moly, TIG welded Firebird frame and forks, finished in show chrome and a Tange MXII headset fitted as standard.
The secret of DP's success was simple, they gave people what they wanted. Truly unbeatable in quality and price.
