Glyn Lewis

Glyn Lewis came from Gillingham in Kent. As a lad he was struck down with Polio, wasting the muscles in his left leg and the loss of sight in one eye. Not exactly the sort of trouble you need if you wanted to take on the might of the Freestyling World, which was exactly where Glyn Lewis had decided he was going. Since he first started getting into the skate parks on his Chopper, Glyn Knew what he wanted to do for the next ten years of his life.

He started out Freestyling at Gillingham Skate park, he couldn’t keep away from the place. He kept working at it all the time pushing himself further and further. In the early days he would work hard on bikes that couldn’t stand what he was doing to them. He was always bending frames and snapping wheels but it wasn’t long before more specialist bikes came along.

Glyn’s first taste of success, after all his hard work came in a Freestyler competition at his home park where he came first and scored 98 points out of a hundred but the competition that spread his name throughout the land was when he won the very first ever Kellogg’s Freestyle Championships back in 1984.

After the Kellogg's success Glyn was signed up by Dave Park and that is where he spent most of his time when he wasn’t out travelling round giving demos. Glyn loved what he was doing and he was very happy with the bike he was riding. At dp they were always working on improvements, and Glyn was always involved in that fully because when he wasn’t out training or competing he worked in the factory.

The GL Plus Freestyler was basically a standard Freestyler but with some design modifications by Glyn Lewis. One of the first changes made were the brake cables, Glyn wanted these to run through the frame and forks, making it easier to do tricks and it also looked slick. Next was the coaster arm hanger, this was moved to a new position just below the seat stay. Not only did this move it out of harms way but it absorbs all the upwards thrust of your braking action.
