This was the first frame set made by DP Racing in 1982. Made from 100% 4130 Cro-Moly TIG welded and weighed just 3.1kg. The first 50 Firebird frame sets were painted Black with a Gold fleck to match the paint work on Dave Parks car.
The mainframe was made from Reynolds 501 tubing.
70.3 degree head angle and 68 degree seat angle. Bottom bracket 12.5 inches high. Rear triangle 15.5 inches

The early Firebirds were made with double butted head tube. The decals changed a few times on the Firebirds. Some were made onto a chrome foil and others onto clear vinyl. Then later they were made on a gold foil and dye cut around the edge of the logos. You can see the chrome foil head tube decal pictured here. This MK 1 Firebird only had one main frame decal from new, some also left the factory with only a single main frame decal, no fork or head tube decal.
The rear brake bridge on the MK1 was prone to being crushed if the calliper was over tightend. This problem was dealt with when the MK2 under went a design change.
