Over the past year i have received some great emails from people telling me about there DP memories, some are so good that i thought it would be great to share them with you all. If you have any that you would like to share, then please send them in.
This is interesting, I was told of your site yesterday from a collegue in Holland.
You have done some interesting and in depth research, and I am interested in your site.
My father was David Park who set up DP industries as it was latterly known, but sadly has now passed on.
I have got a lot of information relating to the business, as I inherited a lot from my father.
I would be interested to hear from you, to know how you got some of the details (my version for the start of the business is slightly different to yours!!!).
Kind Regards,
Neil Park
Hi there - saw the website and thought I'd drop you a line about a few of the different Firebird frames I rode back in the day.
I first got a Firebird racing frame from OT Cycles for £60-ish. This was built up using the parts from my Ultra Burner. The gold parts went pretty well with the stickers. It was supposed to be a Christmas pressie, but I gave my Mum so much earache I got it early December. I nearly sh!t myself with excitement the first time I rode it!!
My second was a chrome Freestyler set up with Tuffs and a rotor I made myself out of two sealed bearing cases and jubilee clips (and it worked!). Unfortunately, the down tube snapped whilst pulling back from a Miami Hopper - Oops! I got it re-welded at school using the biggest dollop of MIG weld.
The last Freestyler was by far the best. I entered and won the 1985 freestyle contest at Flint Leisure Centre (on the re-welded frame). Charlie Reynolds gave me the trophy, and the Larsen guy gave a demo (including some very wierd hopping stuff, that should have stayed in Sweden - sorry). DP was there, and he arranged for my Dad to take me over to the factory at Aber Park. I got a full tour of the factory, and was then given a neon pink frame. He said it was for winning the Flint comp (but it was probably because I was riding a re-welded Freestyler). I remember him saying that the paint was the same that they used on police car stripes! Getting the frame was one of the coolest things that happened to me as a kid!
Anyway, thought I'd share my memories. Good luck with the site.
