Even before the Firebird Freestyler from DP arrived at the BMX Freestyle office everyone was busy trying to come up with an original idea for their new advert. The answer was obvious, set it on fire. The staff went flying everywhere trying to get hold of some coal, glass, petrol and just about anything else they could think of. Finally everthing was ready and as soon as the frame arrived we would begin shooting. If Arthur Scargil ever got wind of how much coal there was in the office we would have a national picket on our doorstep within hours.
The moment of truth had arrived, liberal amounts of petrol were doused over the set and then on a count of three the matches were thrown on. Was the camera set on the right exposure, perhaps not enough petrol was poured on the frame? By the eighth attempt everyone was satisfied that we had enough shots for the ad and the flames were doused for the last time. We can safely say that the first parts of the Firebirds' test had been completed. Once the frame had had a bit of spit and polish it looked as good as new, even the decals hadn't been singed. Ten out of ten for trial by fire was given.
